Latest Trends in Salwar Kameez - Fashion Segment

Since many centuries, Salwar Kameez has always been a part of Indian woman’s wardrobe. It’s not only in India that salwar kameez has been in vogue but also in western countries. Although there are other options like sarees and dresses but when it comes to comfort and elegance together, salwar kameez is a big yes!
Various designers have been designing suits in different shapes and patterns. Many designers have also experimented with designing suits that have a vintage and western touch to enhance elegance and add to the classic touch of this decades old fashion.
Women also go for contemporary styles and designs which have been further categorised on the basis of work/ the fabric used/ the shape in which they have been designed and stitched. Trends in salwar kameez are basically categorised into five segments namely Anarkali, straight-cut, Patiala suits, Pakistani/Afghani suits and heavy /bridal suits.
Anarkali suits are body fit till the breast and frilly and loose beyond that. They come in different lengths and most frequent ones are knee length and floor length. For bottom wear they are paired up with skin fit churidars along with contrasting or matching dupatta. The work on Anarkalis can be as heavy as required for weddings and as simple as that required for a birthday party.

Patiala suits have short kameez about the length till hip or some inches below that whereas the salwar is loose and has many pleats that give a heavy and charismatic look. The dupatta can be taken sideways or around the neck depending on the pattern of the kameez. This trend is popular in north India especially from Punjab, the source of Patiala suits. The kurta/kameez can have rounded or sharp cuts around the edges also different shapes contrasting the work done on it can add to the diversity of the suit.
Pakistani suits and Afghani suits were worn in Pakistan and Afghanistan but they have been in fashion in India and other foreign countries. The bottom of the kameez has broad and heavy lace which can either be woollen or of cotton. Cigarette pants are paired with them to offer a woman complete comfort and classiness. Dupatta is usually not carried with these suits but if required cotton or chiffon ones are best suited.
Straight Cut suits are simple suits which can be used for daily routine. These include very light work printed and lightly sequined works are best suited. The length of kameez can be short or long depending on one’s choice. Contrasting to this are heavy bridal suits for weddings and special occasions that have heavy sequined and thread work. If a woman wants comfort and sophistication at the same time bridal suits work wonders.
